Our chickpeas are loving the growing conditions after 25mm rain last week. There has been a lot of changes in the crop over the last month. They are at different stages, but most have finished flowering, and are filling pods. Still looking fresh, we hit them with a bug spray for heliothis caterpillars mid September and are monitoring closely for more activity. Most years we get away with a well timed single spray. Both kabuli and desi varieties look very similar in terms of plant height and numbers of pods. One pic below shows kabuli on the left, desi on the right with a missed row separating varieties. Expecting yields around 2t/ha, and easy harvesting in about 5 or 6 weeks time, depending on the conditions. Stay tuned, more to follow….
