Planting winter crops is well behind due to the continuing drought. About 10% of the farms are planted to wheat and chickpeas to date, but we will need alot more rain to make harvest. Planting will continue over the next few weeks as conditions permit.
There have been a number of rain events over the past 6 months that have either missed us or just haven’t been heavy enough to start building a moisture profile in the soil. On average a push probe will only go 15-20cm. Not enough to see a general plant. More to follow as crops emerge.
