July Crop Update

We’ve had a good on start on drying conditions since planting. About 20mm of rain over the last month from three falls just keeps everything growing, but alot more is needed. We managed to plant fababeans and chickpeas deep on good moisture although planting conditions were not good enough for wheat. These crops have alot of weed pressure now, because of the lack of rain to activate post emergent herbicides. Volunteer canola in fababeans and fababeans/wild turnip in chickpeas are potential threats. Good rainfall from now on will be critical to tackle weed issues and maximize yields. More to follow in August.
