Not quite as exciting as last season, but a real learning experience about what we can achieve on good starting moisture. Its been a very tough season with high bug pressure early on, followed by extreme heat and no rain during January, Febuary and March. The killer was the night time temps that never let plants recover. Without summer rain this crop was cooked. We could have pulled the pin early and sprayed it out, but decided to keep it, defoliate, and take it through to stripping. We haven’t made any money, but we haven’t lost any money either, so given these tough seasonal conditions, its a good result. We will have another crack at it next season if moisture permits, and hope to see good summer rainfall.
